The County Conservation Board system is celebrating its 50th birthday this weekend with a big conference in Linn County.
Cherokee County sent a basket for the silent auction, full of generous donations from the Quimby Golf Course, Pool & Pub,
La Hacienda, the Copper Cup, the Gasthaus, the CCCB and me (Ginger). Some lucky bidder will find themselves with four lovely
weekend getaway packages for Cherokee County excursions. Thanks to all the generous donors, whose willingness to participate
is a testament to our wonderful communities.
For those of us spending the weekend locally, there is much to appreciate. The full Harvest Moon will shine over the
river valley's rattling cottonwood trees on Sunday night (9/18). Crickets are still singing their lullabies, but not for long.
The Autumn Equinox is one week away, the day that daylight and night hours are equal prior to the long domination of twilight
that pulls us only too quickly into Winter. Virginia creeper and sumac leaves are well on their way to blazing red.
The Cherokee County Park campgrounds are open for campers until October 1. Find out why your sleeping bag is so
warm and why a campfire is such a precious commodity!
