Conservation in Cherokee County has never been at a more critical crossroads. In 2006, our communities will continue
to grasp at economic survival. We will continue to invite business, agriculture, families and cultural resources to settle
here. We will uphold the incredible quality of life that we enjoy and take steps to make it better. It is imperative at a
time like this that we recognize the importance of clean waters, clean air, uncontaminated soil, beatiful vistas, and biodiversity
to our long-term well-being!!! Our leaders must commit financial resources toward our natural resources! Citizens need to
stand up in unity, with passion, and behind an organized front to demand protection, restoration and enhancement of natural
resources!
As you might have guessed, I feel strongly about this. That's why 2006 will be a year of environmental action for this
county naturalist. I will arrange programs for YOU that will give you the tools to monitor and protect our natural world.
Think about it. If you don't do it, who will? The Conservation Board is concerned with maintaining parks and existing
park habitat. The Soil & Water Conservation District is mandated to preserve the profitability of agriculture while offering
producers the tools to protect their soil and water. But who is standing watch to make sure no harm comes to our chunk of
the Earth? Who notices when conditions change from good to bad or bad to worse? It's up to you and me. Check out our newsletter
for upcoming events. Be part of the solution!!!
