Silver Sioux Lodge

paintedlodge.JPG

Peace and quiet with modern conveniences...

The Silver Sioux Lodge, built in 1975, was originally a rustic warming shelter for winter visitors to the tubing hill. Operation of the tubing hill rope lift was ceased in the late 1990s due to maintenance and safety concerns, although many area residents have continued to enjoy sledding and tubing on the hill on snowy days.

The focal point of the Lodge interior is a large stone fireplace, located in the center of the East end of the building. The interior walls have been recently remodeled with knotty pine, fully insulated. Picnic tables and benches provide seating for up to 40 visitors, and reasons for day rentals regularly include family picnics, graduation parties, holiday celebrations, church potlucks and group retreats.

In 2007, the CCCB added a modern kitchen complete with a range, oven, refrigerator, microwave and many convenient kitchen furnishings and utensils. The kitchen includes an air conditioner/heater for year-round comfort. Another addition is an indoor restroom complete with a handicap-accessible shower and a heater for comfort in the cooler seasons.

8 double-size bunks at the Lodge are big enough for groups, cozy enough for couples.

Winter 2008 saw the completion of renovation, with replacement of windows and doors, insulation and refinishing of the building's interior, as well as the addition of 8 double-size bunk beds. These finishing touches make the Lodge comfortable for overnight and multiple-night use by large or small groups. Renters must provide their own bedding and towels. Screened windows keep the building cool on summer days, and the fireplace and overhead heaters warm it in cooler weather. Firewood and snow removal are provided. Outdoor grills keep the cook out of the kitchen in fair weather.

At $50/day, the Lodge is an affordable, quiet getaway spot for families, couples, hunters, anglers, paddlers or anyone who loves waking up to a view of the river and a chorus of forest birds. The nearby boat ramp and adjacent public hunting ground make this an attractive destination for sportsmen and women. Call 712-225-6709 to reserve the building for your next event or vacation!
