Martin Area consists of 202 acres of beautiful river valley habitat in northeastern Cherokee County
. The area contains three primitive camping areas with a total of 40 campsites. Water pumps and handicap accessible pit
toilets are available throughout the park. Campsites are available first come, first served for $5 per night from
spring through fall. Roads are subject to close due to weather, so out-of-area campers may want to contact the CCCB prior
to arrival.
Martin Area also features 28 picnic shelters,
river access for anglers and canoeists, and scenic hiking trails through prairie, savanna and woodland habitats. Snowmobiling
is permitted on roads within the park. (No motorized vehicles on trails! ATVs are prohibited by state law.) Walleyes, catfish
and northern pike are found in the river. This is an excellent area for birdwatching, mushroom and berry picking, and cross
country skiing.
New in
2007, horseback riding trails have been re-opened for equestrian use! Three miles of existing
and new trails are marked with signs and orange flagging tape. Please visit our Horse Trail Page for more details.
Hunting is permitted from October 1 through
April 30. Access during these months is usually limited to walk-in only. Habitat at Martin Area supports whitetail deer, wild
turkey, ringneck pheasants, and other small game and non-game wildlife.
