Rockhounding to the River
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE July 24, 2023 ROCKHOUNDING TO THE RIVER The Cherokee County Conservation Board is partnering with the Sanford Museum to provide you with a unique opportunity to rockhound the Mill Creek stream bed on Saturday, August 5th! Kerisa Pingel, Educator from the Sanford Museum, will be assisting with rock types and identification on sandbars as well as pointing out a unique geological feature or two on a wade down Mill Creek to the Little Sioux River. The program will begin at 10:00am at Mill Creek Bridge and will take 1-2 hours. Plan on bringing a snack, dress for the weather and water, and wear sunscreen and/or bug spray. Wear comfortable shoes for walking down the Mill Creek stream bed- footwear is required. The event is free, but children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
