Legacy Grant Supports Improvements

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 1, 2025

Legacy Grant Supports Improvements

Thanks to a funding from the Cherokee County Legacy Grant, the Lodge at the Licklider Shooting Complex got an electrical update and is one step closer to opening for public use!

The Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB) received management of the Licklider Shooting Complex in 2023. The property was immediately assessed and it was determined that the electrical in the Lodge on the property was not in good shape, so it could no be opened for public use.
The Legacy Grant allowed the CCCB to move forward with updating the interior electrical: new fans with lights, updated wiring to existing light fixtures, new & additional outlets, and a new electrical panel. Updating interior electrical has also prompted updating the exterior electrical with a new electrical pole & transformer and new exterior panel that will allow for future growth around the facility.

Once the electrical is complete, new tables and chairs will be installed as well as new entrance doors. That will make the space functional enough so people can rent it for graduations, family reunions, etc. That building will also be used in the future for hunter safety classes, summer camp, and shooting competitions. Future additions to the property will include bathrooms, a kitchen, heating/cooling, and updated patio.

Located at 5949 Little Sioux Road and managed by the Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB), the Licklider Shooting Complex consists of a gun range, archery range, and trap fields. Users are required to sign-in and out when using the complex as well as pay to use the facility.

The Licklider Shooting Complex is tentatively closed for the months of January and February, opening March 1 weather dependent. Rules for the complex and the current shooting range are available on the CCCB website, www.cherokeecountyparks.com.
