Summer Camps
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE April 1, 2025 CCCB HOSTS SUMMER CAMPS The Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB) is hosting several different camps in June and July this summer. It is preferred that students complete the grades listed behind each camp. River Ramblers is our biggest summer adventure because it's an overnight camp offered July 8-10 and is for 6th-8th graders. Participants will spend a day doing team-building activities and practicing their paddling skills in a lake before spending a day kayaking the Little Sioux River. Participants will meet new friends, hike the trails, and tent camp near the Martins Access cabins. This event is a partnership with Plymouth County and has a $75 fee to cover food. Kayaking and tenting materials will be provided. Day Camps for 1st-3rd graders include Nature's Whodunnit?, Intro to Fishing, and Sandbar Stroll. At Nature's Whodunnit? Camp, we'll look at animal tracks, scat, and signs to see who has been here! Intro to Fishing will be for beginners. We'll focus on casting, identifying fish, then catching fish. At Sandbar Stroll we're partnering with the Sanford Museum to help us find sandbar goodies like awesome rocks, bones, and artifacts. Day Camps for 4th grade and up include Intro to Fishing and Sandbar Stroll. We've also added Intro to Archery and Kayak Camp. Archery will include learning how to use a bow as well as practicing grouping of arrows. It will be geared towards those new to the hobby. Kayak Camp will include learning safety skills at Spring Lake Park, then taking a short float down the river. Fees for these camps are $10/family, with the exception of River Ramblers, which has a $75 fee/participant. For example, if you have multiple children in one camp or spread between two, it's a total of $10. If you have a child in River Ramblers and another in any other camp, the cost would be $85. Payment must be received one week after the camp participant is registered or their space is forfeited. The CCCB will accept cash, check, or credit card. Funds support the Steve Nelson Memorial Scholarship. Contact Laura at the CCCB if the fee is keeping you from registering a camp participant. Each camp will include a snack, has limited space, and requires advanced registration. Please register participants only if they plan on attending.
