Summer Camps
UPDATE: Most camps have been cancelled due to flooding, so we have closed registration. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 28, 2024 CCCB HOSTS SUMMER CAMPS The Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB) is hosting several different camps in June and July this summer. Camps are available for all ages, 3 yrs old through adult. Also, the CCCB will be partnering with the Plymouth and O'brien County Conservation Boards to offer an overnight canoeing event called River Ramblers. New this year is a beekeeping camp offered for 2nd grade and up! Jr. Naturalist Camp is a multi-day camp geared towards 3-5 year olds and an adult. This camp involves stories and hands-on activities like games and crafts. It runs June 11-13 and July 9-11 from 9:00am-11:00am at Spring Lake Park. The camp theme will be "Things With Wings". Sign up for one or both weeks. Though the theme is the same, activities and stories will change. River Ramblers is an overnight camp offered July 16-18 and is for those who have completed 6th-8th grades. Participants will spend a day canoeing the Little Sioux River with two overnight stays at Martins Access. This event is a partnership with Plymouth and O'brien Counties and has a $60 fee to cover food and some materials. Three beekeeping day camps will be offered this year! June 22 will be for adults, June 25th will be for those that have completed 2nd-4th grades, June 27 for those that have completed 5th and up. These camps will take place at the CCCB Office from 9am-noon. Space is limited because we only have so many bee suits available. All three camps will involve getting into a beehive. Other day camps include Bird's the Word (July 23) for those that have completed K-1st grades, Physics of Flying (July 25) for those that have completed 2nd-4th graders, and Buggin' Out (July 30) for those that have completed K-1st grades. All three of those will be held at Spring Lake Park from 9am-11:30am and include games and hands on activities about things with wings! Fees for these camps are $10/family, with the exception of River Ramblers, which has a $60 fee/participant. For example, if you have multiple children in one camp or spread between two, it's $10. If you have a child in River Ramblers and another in any other camp, the cost would be $70. Payment must be received one week after the camp participant is registered or their space is forfeited. The CCCB will accept cash, check, or credit card. Funds support the Steve Nelson Memorial Scholarship. Contact the CCCB if the fee is keeping you from registering a camp participant. Each camp has limited space and you must register in advance. Please register participants only if they plan on attending, not to reserve a space in case they might attend. Don’t send your participant to camp if they are not feeling well.
