CCCB HOSTS SUMMER CAMPS
The Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB) is hosting five summer camps this year. The annual Summer Day Camp and Adventure Camps will be offered in addition to an Eco Avenger Camp and Canoe Camp. Also, the CCCB will be partnering with the Plymouth County Conservation Board to offer a canoeing and overnight event called River Ramblers.
Adventure Camp will be offered June 27-29 and focuses on outdoor survival and various recreational activities for those who have completed 5th and 6th grades. Potential hands-on activities that may take place this year include trapping, Frisbee golf, geocaching, and more! Registration is due by June 21st.
"Eco-Encounters" is the theme of the Cherokee County Conservation Board’s Summer Day Camp this year. Participants were go on hikes looking at various ecosystems and partake in hands-on activities. Camp will be offered July 18-20 for those who have completed grades K-1st this last school year and July 25-27 for those who have completed 2nd-4th grades. Registration is due by July 12th and 19th.
Both camps will be held at Spring Lake Park in Cherokee. Camp runs from 9:00am-11:30am each day and begins at the new shelter (old Yacht Club location). Space is limited to 12-15 participants. Both camps are offered free of charge.
Eco-Avenger Camp is geared towards those who have completed 7th-10th grades. This camp involves hands-on conservation and natural resource management. It runs June 6th, 13th, and 20th from 8:30am-12:00pm at the CCCB office. Registration is required by June 2nd.
River Ramblers runs from July 11-13 and is for those who have completed 6th-12th grades. Participants will spend a half day learning water safety and two days canoeing the Little Sioux River with an overnight stay at Martins Access. This event has a $30 fee to cover food and some materials. Registration is required by July 5th.
The last summer camp offered will take place August 9th & 10th. Canoe Camp will consist of a day on the river learning about water quality, archaeology, wildlife, geology, and more! This camp is geared towards those who have completed 7th-10th grades. Registration is required by August 4th.
