Summer Camps
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 24, 2023 CCCB HOSTS SUMMER CAMPS The Cherokee County Conservation Board (CCCB) is hosting four summer day camps this year. Offered annually, these camps include Critter Camp 1 & 2, Hawkeyes Adventure Camp, and a Jr. Naturalist Camp. Also, the CCCB will be partnering with the Plymouth County Conservation Board to offer an overnight canoeing event called River Ramblers. “Critter Camp” is the theme of camp this year. Participants will learn a little bit about different types of animals, their fun adaptations, and where they live. Camp will be offered June 20-22 for those that have completed K-1st and June 27-29 for those that have completed 2nd-4th. Registration is due by June 6th for Critter Camp 1 and June 13th for Critter Camp 2. Camp will run from 9:00am-11:30am and take place at Spring Lake Park. Jr. Naturalist Camp is geared towards 3-5 year olds and their guardian. This camp involves stories and hands-on activities like games and crafts. It runs July 11-13 from 9:00am-11:00am at Spring Lake Park. Registration is required by June 27th. River Ramblers runs from July 18-20 and is for those who have completed 6th-8th grades. Participants will spend a day canoeing the Little Sioux River with two overnight stays at Martins Access. This event is a partnership with Plymouth County and has a $60 fee to cover food and some materials. Registration is required by July 4th. Hawkeyes Adventure Camp will be offered August 8-10 and focuses on outdoor survival, recreational activities, and citizen science projects for those who have completed 5th - 8th grades. Registration is due by July 25th. Camp will run from 9:00am-11:30am at Spring Lake Park. Fees for these camps are $10/family, with the exception of River Ramblers, which has a $60 fee/participant. For example, if you have multiple children in one camp or spread between two, it's $10. If you have a child in River Ramblers and another in any other camp, the cost would be $70. Payment must be received two weeks after camp participant is registered or they're space is forfeited. The CCCB will accept cash, check, or credit card. Funds support the Steve Nelson Memorial Scholarship. Contact the CCCB if the fee is keeping you from registering a camp participant. Each camp has limited space. Please register participants only if they plan on attending, not to reserve a space in case they might attend. Don’t send your participant to camp if they are not feeling well.
